GO 53 on Enhancement of Ex-gratia upto 5 Lakhs Toddy Tappers in Telangana

The then Andhra Pradesh Government issued orders for case of death while engaged in toddy tapping , the legal heirs of the deceased toddy tappers were sanctioned an exgratia amount of Rs.2,00,000/- . In case of permanent disability Rs.50,000/- and temporary disability Rs. 10000 / – were sanctioned to the toddy tappers if
they became disabled while engaged in toddy tapping .

Commissioner of Prohibition & Excise, Telangana, Hyderabad has submitted proposals to the Government for taking a decision on enhancement of ex-gratia to the toddy tappers in the State.

After careful examination of the matter, Government hereby enhance the ex-gratia to Rs.5,00,000/- (Rupees Five Lakhs only) in case of death / permanent disability and Rs. 10,000/- in case of temporary disability to the legal heirs of toddy tappers / disabled toddy tappers where death / disability happened due
to accident while tapping .

The Commissioner of Prohibition & Excise, Telangana, Hyderabad, shall take necessary action in the matter accordingly.

Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise reported that the Memorandum of Understanding with ICICI
Lombard Insurance Company for payment of compensation to disabled tappers/ families of deceased tappers ended by 08-06-2008. It is noticed that ICICI has rejected certain cases on technical grounds like delay in
submission of required documents, etc. As per the available information the ICICI has rejected 367 cases pertaining to the year 2006-07 and 542 cases pertaining to the year 2007-08. Subsequently Memorandum of
Understanding has been entered with M/s. Oriental Insurance Company w.e.f. 22-09-2008 to run the scheme.

The Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise has also reported that a number of representations from toddy tappers Associations have been received alleging undue delay on the part of the Insurance Company in
payment of exgratia and requesting to revert to the erstwhile exgratia scheme. The Memorandum of Understanding entered into with M/s. The Oriental Insurance Company Limited would expires by 21-09-2009. Hence the Commissioner of Prohibition & Excise has proposed for payment of compensation through exgratia by the Government after the term of the present Memorandum of Understanding is completed at the rate of
Rs 2,00,000/- in the case of death , Rs. 50,000/- in case of permanent disability and Rs. 10,000/-in the case of temporary disability.
